Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
